Introduction / Portland Econo Northwest 2015

Hey vanners! I've been meaning to get this blog started for a while now, and since I finally picked up a laptop, the time has come! This blog will be the beginning of my long term plan to publish a photography book featuring vans, and vanners of the Pacific Northwest. I will be putting up a kickstarter in the coming weeks to fund this project, while also raising money to restore my own recently acquired 70's survivor show van, Infinite Surf!

The story of this van is a long one. Below are a few links to two write ups I did on this van on the vanning.com forums. The first link is the original piece I wrote with all of the history I was able to dig up on the van. I added all of the old photos I could find, and every detail I knew about the van at the time. It was with that post that I finally gained the attention of the owner of the van, Ken. If you scroll through all the comments, you can see his comments as Pirate, saying that he had a great ending to the story. And that he did!

The second link is a write up on the trip I took from Portland, Oregon, back to the town I grew up in, Cincinnati, Ohio, to assess the situation of the van, and get an idea of what I was getting myself into. I had a lot of help from some amazing members of the van community in the area, the Southern Ohio Van Council. On this post, you can also see the follow up from after I had the van shipped across the country to Portland, where it now sits in my driveway.

Anyway, now that that is out of the way, I wanted to post up some coverage of Rolling Death's trip to the 2015 Econo Northwest van show! This is a show put on every year for the past 15 years by Terry Abbott, with plenty of assistance from his friends and family. It is an all early (1961-1967) Econoline van and pickup show. There was an amazing turnout this year. The location was perfect for this event, taking place in the parking lot of a Les Schwab tire shop on SE Division and 122nd Ave. There was tons of space for vans, spectators, and even a synchronized drum band. Enjoy the photos!

This amazing chop top Dodge COE truck pulled in a really rad Econoline project van for sale.
This is what the COE dragged in. A bagged panel van. TBATW, but $2500 didn't seem bad for a runner! And I love those Cragars.

A good window is a paneled over window.
Full camper conversion with pop top!
Rusty, crusty, but trusty (?) pickup. This one was for sale for $3500 I believe.
 Pickup!
Falcon window van. This is one case when I forgive windows. These are such good looking vans.
Timing couldn't be better (worse?) for this one. A freshly painted rebel flag graced the side of this early panel van.
This one belongs to Terry Abbott, who puts on the show every year. The rear end is bagged, with the front end flipped.
 Lifted pickup!
A killer flatbed conversion on this pickup. Extremely well done.

One of the few pickups at the show that I actually see around town regularly. Also one of the nicest.
Gotta love that single fog light!
Word was that this van had just been acquired by the new owner.
 Pickup!
This thing was cool! Second gen Chevy Sportvan, with custom Ford Econoline side trim.
 Pickup!
 Pickup!
 Supervan Panel.
Another super clean Falcon window van.
One of my favorite pickups from the show.
The front panel of the pickup above.
 Pickup!
Another project brought in for sale on a trailer.

Very clean shorty panel. Also for sale.
 Shorty panel!
Stanger's shorty panel with a fresh mural.
The cleanest Falcon window van at the show. This van won best ford at the RDVC van meet last summer.
 Supervan panel!
Glass etching on Terry's Falcon van.
 Lifted pickup!
Nial's '98 Econoline painted to look like the original Ford Cruising Van. Portholes coming soon!
 Ambulance!
Cosmic Wheeler James's Dodge A100.
 Jaaaaaaaaaames!
Another way cool 1966 Chevy Sportvan.

 Pickup!
A row of outcasts at the early Ford show. An early Chevy, my mid Ford, James' early Dodge, and Adam's mid Chevy, Blood Diamond.
 Pickup!
One of the other vans I see around town often. This one gets driven a lot, and I love it!
 And the band!
